Why San Antonio Air Conditioning Technicians Are So Busy In Early Spring

This time of the year air conditioning system drains are at risk of clogging. Unfortunately, it’s an inevitable evil in life. And it’s a common problem we see in the San Antonio area in the Spring. Why? Because the conditions are perfect. The air conditioning experts at Tiger Services Air Conditioning & Heating explain this phenomenon and how you can help prevent clogged AC drains from becoming a problem for your home.

Perfect Conditions for Clogged Air Conditioning Drains

San Antonio is warming up in early spring, getting everyone, and everything, excited to wake up for a new season. This unfortunately also means it’s waking up the sediment in your air conditioner’s condensation drain. When it’s cold, sediment buildups tend to shrivel and shrink in your AC drain, but when mother nature wakes up from her long slumber, she perks up everything with her. The warm weather makes that sediment buildup in your drains swell and expand, creating the perfect condition for clogging. And clogging can also lead to expensive and damaging leaks, which no one ever likes. But you don’t have to sit around and wait to call your air conditioning technician. There are things you can do now to make sure you don’t stumble upon an issue.

How to Avoid Having to Call an Air Conditioning Technician

Take the situation into your own hands. Here’s how to clear your AC drain lines in the spring to stay in the clear:

  • Find the main drain line outside of your home. The main drain line is usually located near the ground on the outside of your home. It’ll be a 3/4-quarter inch PVC pipe that’s coming out of your home.
  • Connect your wet/dry vacuum hose to the main drain line. Before you turn on the vacuum, make sure that the hose has a good seal on the PVC pipe. Let the vacuum run for 3 minutes or so.
  • After 3 minutes has passed, turn off the vacuum and check it to see if you were able to get anything out. You’ll likely find algae, dirt, dust, and/or insects in the vacuum alongside all the water that had been backed up. Toss the debris, and you’re good to go.

Another way to make sure you don’t end up with clogged air conditioning drains this spring is to call Tiger Services Air Conditioning & Heating for an air conditioning tune-up. It will refresh your system, and clear up those drain lines. Call Tiger Services to squash your air conditioning problems this season at 210-344-0060.
